SAOIRSE BYRNE
Cordage is essentially rope. Humans have been making cordage for over 50,000 years. The process is fun, simple, and repetitive in a way that leaves room for conversation and contemplation. Cordage making is accessible to folks who would not consider themselves crafty as well as to artists engaging with materials in new ways. Trained as a fashion designer, I have been exploring cordage as an art form for nearly a decade. My work includes jewelry, found objects, patternmaking and design. I honor our loved ones by transforming meaningful fabrics into useful and beautiful objects. From prayer shawls to custom covers for private airplanes, I enjoy the challenge and creativity of making. Sharing the process is a delight. I hope that you will join me at my studio for tea, crafting and conversation in an upcoming workshop or open studio tour.
